Pfc Melvin McNamara was a high school student before he enlisted in Meadville, Pennsylvania on 12 April 1943. He was sent overseas in September 1943.

From September 1944 until October 1944 he was hospitalized for wounds caused by artillery shell fragments at the thigh.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in the neck.
