Pfc Eugene C. Stake attended high school for one year and was employed by the National Cooperage on a shipyard in Seneca, Illinois.

He was married to Roma Soloman on 17 May 1941.

He enlisted on 8 September 1943 at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi and later had his training at Camp Meade, before going overseas in May 1944.

His twin daughters were born on 23 January 1944 but died soon after birth.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
