Pfc Edward J. Friends graduated from Millerton High School and worked on the family farm.

He enlisted in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 24 October 1942 and was sent overseas in March 1943. He served in Sicily, Italy and France.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
