Pvt Robert E. Ross attended high school for two years before he joined the Regular Army on 3 May 1939.

In August 1944 he was hospitalized because his hand was burned. He was discharged from the hospital in September.

He died of injuries at this suprapubic region, sustained during a truck accident.
