Pvt James R. Davis attended high school for one year and worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 3 February 1942.

Pvt Davis was hospitalized in Italy from February 1944 to April 1944 for frozen feet.

He was killed in action by artillery shell fragments in the thorax.
