Pfc Melvin T. Orstad was married to Helen English on 7 June 1942.

He was a farmer before he enlisted on 1 December 1942 and went overseas in the middle of June 1944.

He was killed in action by small arms fire in the thorax.

Pfc Orstad is remembered at Strand Cemetery in Corning, Adams County, Iowa with a memorial marker.
