S/Sgt Ruel H. Springer joined the Regular Army in 1940 and was sent overseas in November, 1942.In August 1943, in Sicily, he was hospitalized in North Africa for broken bones and sprained ankle as well as malarial fevers. In January 1944, in Italy, hospitalized again for hepatitis.
He was discharged in February. In August 1944, he was ill of malaria.
In September 1944, in France, he was severely wounded in action by artillery shell fragments at the colon and the rectum. He died of his wounds on 4 October 1944.
