Pvt Joseph H. G. Grant was a laborer employed by Butler County, before he enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 19 November 1943.

On 3 November 1944 he was reported wounded in action at his chin by artillery shell fragments. Later he was severely wounded by small arms fire in the head and died of his wounds on 15 November 1944. The exact location where he died is not known.
